With international pressure intensifying on Yemen to put aside domestic conflict, President Ali Abdullah Saleh pledges to form a national unity government.

"It is possible to form a government of all the influential political parties represented in the parliament," Saleh said in a televised address on Friday.

He also claimed that his government would free imprisoned southern separatists and northern Shia fighters known as the Houthis.

The remarks were made as Yemen is marking the 20th anniversary of the country's unity on Saturday.

Yemen's Socialist Party has been in opposition to re-establish south Yemen as an independent state. The Houthis from the north accuse the government of violating their civil rights and also corruption.
