US forces have opened fire on civilians near the Afghan capital of Kabul, killing at least one person and injuring several others.

Government officials said Monday a woman was killed after US troops opened fire at a vehicle in Sarobi, one of the distanced districts of Kabul, on Sunday night, a Press TV correspondent reported.

The incident left several others wounded, including two children. The US has not yet commented on the shooting.

The report comes a day after ten civilians were killed during US-Taliban clashes in the troubled western Herat province on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, Afghan authorities say over a dozen people were killed in separate attacks in the southern province of Helmand. Afghan police and security forces are reported to be among the dead.

Over 170 civilians have been killed in Afghanistan in 2010 so far, marking a 33 percent rise compared to the same period last year.

Afghanistan was invaded with the official objective of curbing militancy and bringing peace and stability to the country. Nine years on, however, the country remains unstable and civilians continue to pay the price.

The 130,000-strong foreign presence in the country has so far failed to stabilize Afghanistan.
