Pakistani security forces say they have made several arrests in connection with the attempted car bomb attack on Times Square in New York.

On Tuesday, police picked up a few family members and friends of Faisal Shahzad in Karachi, Reuters reported.

Shahzad, who is of Pakistani origin, is reportedly the owner of the vehicle that was found with explosives, gasoline, propane, and burned wires on Sunday.

He was arrested late on Monday night as he was preparing to board a plane at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.

US investigators believe that the unsuccessful bomb plot was formulated by more than just one person.

An intelligence official in Pakistan said that Shahzad received militant training in the northwest near the garrison town of Kohat.

The arrests were made after Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik said Islamabad would cooperate fully with the United States in the investigation.
