Anju Gupta a senior IPS officer revealed to a special court that the Faizabad Police had prior intelligence inputs about an attack on the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992. She was a personal security officer of BJP leader L. K. Advani in Ayodhya during that period. She spilled the beans during a cross-examination by the defence in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Gulab Singh. The 1990 batch senior IPS officer told the court that on December 5, she had attended a review meeting convened by the then Inspector General of Police of Faizabad, A. K. Saran.
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had previously reinstated the charges on Mr. Advani, a former deputy prime minister, the charges of intentionally provoking people into rioting, arson and indulging in rioting with intent to create disorder as well as creating discord among communities.Anju Gupta is appearing in the Special CBI Court as a prosecution witness in a case in which Mr. Advani and BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti and other Sangh Parivar leaders have been accused of inciting violence that led to the demolition.Ms. Gupta who is now posted with the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in Delhi, also added that the BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti another BJP leader Vinay Katiyar and Sadhvi Rithambhara also gave provocative speeches.Mr Advani gave the speech from Ram Katha Kunj manch (dais) which is barely 150 – 200 meters away from the Babri masjid. During his provocative speech he repeatedly stressed that the temple will be constructed at the same site.She also said during her deposition that Mr L.K.Advani had given a very provocation speech in Ayodhya moments before the masjid was demolished by Sangh Parivar activists.She said that the meeting which took place one day before the demolition of the babri Masjid lasted for 40 to 50 minutes and during the meeting clear intelligence was shared that the karsevaks who had gathered in Ayodhya were going to attempt an attack on babri masjid to demolish it.
