There had been no peace talks between Palestine and Israel , ever since December 2008, when Israel observed a 22 days of offense in Gaza strip.

Ehud Barak said “The world is not willing to accept – and we will not change that in 2010 – the expectation that Israel will rule another people for decades more,”.

“It is something that does not exist anywhere else in the world. There is no other way, whether you like it or not, than to let Palestinians rule themselves.”

Barack Obama, looked skeptical over peacemaking prospects between Israeli and Palestinians. He said that peace would not prevail unless these two countries show interest in compromising over their issues. Moreover, US continues to see Israel’s forceful settlememt construction in the East Jerusalem.

According to the defence minister of Israel, the increasing differences between US and Israel can only be narrowed down by taking a diplomatic initiation of terms.

Netanyahu said that the US and Israel “have some outstanding issues. We are trying to resolve them through diplomatic channels in the best way that we can”.In order to build up good relation with US, it would have to go against Palestinian’s demand.

Israel believes in taking a calculated initiative, without alienating itself from US, and at the same time have their settlements in East Jerusalem.
